What is CMS?

CMS stands for Content Management System, a collection of tools designed to allow the creation, modification, organization and removal of information from a Web site. The Content Management System used by The University of Scranton is Hannon Hill's Cascade Server.

CMS Conversion Project

The University of Scranton is redesigning its Web site as part of the CMS Conversion project. There are two general categories of pages:

Splash pages

These are “top level” pages that use free-flowing design. Examples of recently redesign “splash pages” are:
Academics
Student Life

Template pages

Throughout the rest of the Web site, template-based pages are used. The templates provide a framework from which departments can build customized content and features. There are two types of templates:

Conversion of University of Scranton Web sites has been being done in phases. Rollout of the CMS across campus was coordinated by a workgroup that includes:
  • Valarie Clark, Manager of Creative Services
  • Anne Marie Stamford, Assistant Provost of Operations
  • Connie Wisdo, Director of I.T. Development & Applications
  • Jack Williams, IT Services/Trainer
Projects were chosen through an evaluation and selection process through the Committee on University Image and Promotion (CUIP) with input from Deans of the four colleges and the Office of Admissions. CUIP members include:
