Students Medal at Pennsylvania FBLA Competition

Dreaming of a Cure? Attend Relay for Life on April 26

Registration is open for the University's 2024 Relay for Life event that will take place April 26 in support of the American Cancer Society's efforts to save lives. Proceeds from the Relay, and ongoing T-shirt and raffle ticket sales, will add to funds raised during a recent dunk tank event.

Students Spread Awareness Through Gift of Life Challenge

Students in a Social Media Campaigns class led by Dr. Brian Snee, associate professor in the Communications and Media Department, organized and publicized virtual and on-campus outreach efforts in support of a national nonprofit organization that registers organ, tissue and cornea donors.

Shabana Basij-Rasikh, the co-founder and president of the School of Leadership, Afghanistan (SOLA), will serve as the principal speaker at The University of Scranton’s undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 19. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes-Barre.

Shabana Basij-Rasikh to Speak at 2024 Commencement

The co-founder and president of the first and only boarding school for Afghan girls will speak at the 2024 undergraduate commencement ceremony.

The Neuroscience Program at The University of Scranton and the Scranton Neuroscience Society will sponsor a Neuroscience Conference on campus on Saturday, Apr. 27. More than a dozen University of Scranton undergraduates will present poster research at the conference.

More than a dozen students will present research posters at The University of Scranton Neuroscience Conference on April 27.

Five University of Scranton graduate students who were selected as National Science Foundation Noyce Scholars are student teaching this semester at four area school districts. The NSF Noyce Scholar program at Scranton is supported by a five-year grant awarded to Gerard Dumancas, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry Scranton, which provides training and financial support to University secondary education majors in STEM fields who wish to teach at high schools in high-need school districts. NSF Noyce Scholars Begin as STEM Student Teachers

Five Scranton students named as National Science Foundation Noyce Scholars begin as STEM student teachers at four local high schools.

Sarah Boyle, a member of The University of Scranton’s Class of 2024, scored a perfect 180 on her Law School Admission Test (LSAT). She prepared for more than 10 months for the standardized test that is used for admission to law schools.

University of Scranton undergraduate Gabrielle Jamieson, a psychology major, was among just six students selected to receive an Eastern Psychological Association Diversity Travel Fund Award to support attendance at the association’s conference. She presented three research studies at the 2024 Eastern Psychological Association conference, which took place in Philadelphia Feb. 29 to Mar. 1.

Student Spotlight: As a Maggie's Place Volunteer, Claire Loder '24 Walks in Another's Shoes

University students volunteers and chaperones participated in a "Day in the Life of a Mom" Encounter at Maggie's Place in Phoenix, Arizona during a service trip to assist women and children experiencing homelessness. The spring break event was one of several organized by the University's Center for Service and Social Justice.

Nineteen students representing The University of Scranton participated in the American Mock Trial Association Regional Competition, which took place at American University, in Washington, D.C., and competed with teams from Yale, Fordham, Swarthmore, American and Catholic University of America, among other colleges and universities. A team of Scranton students won Honorable Mention and two students, Amanda J. Karpiak and Emilia R. Tobey, won Best Witness awards.

Student Spotlight: Isabelle Wohlleber ’24 Steps Out of Her Comfort Zone for Workfest

Isabelle Wohlleber '24, provided volunteer service in Kentucky earlier this month at the Christian Appalachian Project Workfest. The spring break trip was one of several organized by the University's Center for Service and Social Justice.

Registration is open to area middle and high school soccer players at all skill levels for the Scranton Soccer Fest, set for May 4 at The University of Scranton’s Fitzpatick Field. Groups of six to 10 can register to compete in the 6-on-6 tournament in the following age divisions: U12 male; U12 female; U14 coed; high school male; and high school female. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the American Breast Cancer Foundation.

President of the Physical Therapy Club Sienna Amato said members apply their knowledge to assist the community, and participate in a variety of volunteer-based service activities. One event, wheelchair basketball, raises funds for I AM (Individual Abilities in Motion.)

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants “Strategies for Boosting Accounting Enrollment An AICPA Pipeline Acceleration Report” noted The University of Scranton Accounting Department’s successful initiatives to increase interest in the field of accounting, as well as efforts to support students studying accounting at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Only 13 colleges in the nation were included in the report that cites examples of innovative successful strategies for expanding access to accounting programs, enhancing student engagement and empowering student success.
